§ 6-131. Exercise of police powers.

  • The city council finds and declares that there exists within the city limits and its environs, residential buildings and accessory structures which are unfit for human habitation due to dilapidation, defects increasing the hazards of fire, accidents or other calamities, lack of ventilation, light or sanitary facilities and other conditions rendering such buildings unsafe, unsanitary, dangerous or detrimental to the health, safety or morals, or otherwise inimical to the welfare of the residents within the city and its environs, and that public necessity exists to exercise the police powers of the city to cause the repair and rehabilitation, closing or demolishing of such buildings and structures, in the manner provided in this article, as provided by the state statutes.
