§ 2-31. Organization; oath.
At the first regular meeting of the council in December following the day of the biennial election, the persons who have been declared elected as members of the city council shall meet for the purpose of organization, and before entering upon their duties each shall qualify by taking the oath as provided by article VI, section 7, of the North Carolina Constitution. The person who has been declared elected as mayor shall also take the following required oath:
"I, ___________, do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support and maintain the constitution and laws of the United States, and the constitution and laws of North Carolina, not inconsistent therewith, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of my office as ___________, so Help me God."
